Wallpaper Pincushion Box
19th century wallpaper storage box with cushion top for pins. The interior would hold sewing supplies and pins, the cushion being used for pins while sewing. It appears the interior has been lined, later, with plain paper over original newspaper, a bit of the interior plain paper turned down, revealing newspaper with the date “1844”. Exterior is light blue paper with green and yellow flocked-paper borders encircling the top and the box itself. The cushion is fashioned from very early silk fabric in brilliant colors. 8 ¼ inches long, 4 ¾ inches wide & 5 ¼ inches tall. Photos tell the tale of significant use over time; wear to edges, stain to bottom corner on one side, wear to fabric. All colors are strong and vibrant.
