18th century Pine Box
Pine Storage Box. 18th century slide lid box in original red paint of mortise and tenon construction, diamond shaped thumb piece and carved turnbuckle. All parts being hand-planed, the thumb piece decorated with scratch-carving on the underside and the turnbuckle affixed with a single hand-forged nail. The box is in remarkable as descended condition; wear to surface and edges as shown in photographs, but no restoration. 7 ¾ in. long, 4 in. tall and 5 inches wide. White pine with 20 hand-carved tenons, mid 18th century. New England.
