Persian Bottle
When I used to do antiques shows, people would often ask “how do you know it’s old”? I couldn’t hide my dirty look…so I stopped doing shows. If I had been trying to sell this bottle, I might have mentioned the design similarities to another saddle bottle given to Queen Anne, in 1708, by the Persian Ambassador, which still exists in a private collection. It is documented. BUT, that would have led to the second question: “why is it not more expensive”? And then the customer would rattle on about the Antiques Road Show and how a Queen Anne Table was valued at $150,000…& therefore the bottle would be suspect because it didn’t have such a lofty price…. (sigh). Persian Saddle Flask with a tooled V-shaped lip and string decoration, late 18th century. Green glass. Very good condition with appropriate wear; the broad lip providing for a length of natural twine to be affixed and looped over a saddle pommel. It is 9 ½ inches tall, and, by design, does not stand up without assistance
