Bread Board
Carved and painted round hardwood bread board, used for cutting on both sides. I have never owned an English Breadboard before…this one seemed quite unusual because it retains most of its blue-green paint and possesses great character of age. As these boards were never painted, I assume the blue was put on to freshen the piece around 1900. 10 ¾ inches with ¼ inch shrinkage with the grain. Marks of use in all the right places, some of the letters are a bit more chafed than others, but the leaves are nicely carved on either side of the nail hole. English, 19th century. Came from a St. Louis Estate.
